Are you looking for a good DSLR but don’t want to break the bank and still take great photos?
The Canon 77D offers an extremely great value for a DSLR up-to-date package. The 77D is Canon’s new (launched this year) entry level DSLR targeted at new and casual photographers. This camera is a great example of how cheap DSLRs nowadays can manage amazing features and image quality.
To start with, the camera comes with more megapixels than other similar offerings like 70D with 24 MP and a new image processor, Digic 7. This combines to produce better pictures and end results.
However, what will benefit new photographers or amateur photographers the most would be the 77D’s 45 AF points which is a huge step from the 70D’s 19. This makes the focusing more accurate and more importantly makes regular photo taking more carefree as you do not have to go back to check your photos to see if you manage to focus or not because with 45 AF points, more than likely the 77D managed to get what you want in focus. With higher ISO capability as well, the 77D can manage to take photos in even darker conditions than the 70D.
Video is also upgraded to 60fps to allow for a more buttery video and more options when editing your videos. With video in DSLR becoming more and more important, this was a much-needed upgrade.
One of the best features in our opinion is how light the 77D is. At 532g, it is almost lighter than the 70D counterpart by 50%. In our opinion, this is commonly overlooked as we do not consider this often in our purchases. However as DSLRs are already a more bulkier choice of a camera, when your camera is light this allows for more extended periods of use and it becomes less of a hassle or burden to carry around especially when traveling.
Another great feature that may not seem important is its wireless capabilities with WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC. Although the 70D has WiFi, allowing for wireless transfer of photos to your phone or your PC, the 77D includes NFC and Bluetooth for more convenient, faster and on-the-go transferring capabilities. Either tap your phone to begin the transfer, or pair your phone to the camera via Bluetooth to sync photos as well as image data like geolocation.
The one disadvantage of the 77D is that it is not weather sealed. Although this may be a deal breaker for some, many of you will probably never require weather sealing on your camera.
So who is this camera for? With upgrades in the image and video quality side, the 77D has become one of the most amazing options for consumer grade DSLR. Its low price does not come with low end specs or features. This camera would be amazing for a new photographer beginning their shooting adventures, or for someone to upgrade from their outdated bulkier DSLR. This would also be a great summer gift especially if your family or friends are taking vacations.
